Fun things to do outside of the historic city would be to visit any of the over 20 beaches that are located near Grand Rapids, whether its swimming, tanning, fishing, or exploring. There are busier beaches, more secluded beaches, and some that are adjacent to the remarkable sand dunes and forests. The magazine Field & Stream labeled Grand Rapids the nation’s “6th best fishing city”. There is no lack of available fishing locations, with the most popular being the Grand River located downtown.
