There are three main historical districts, the largest being the Center Avenue Historic District.
The city has a very interesting look to it because of all the large Victorian style Mansions that were built and lived in when the lumber and ship building industries took off in that area, and later the salt industry. There are many museums, antique stores, and many other historic pieces of architecture that you can see while traveling around the town. One of the most popular museums in the area is the Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum. This museum resides on the Vietnam era Destroyer the USS Edson, which is a retired U.S. Navy ship that has been converted to a naval museum.
Apart from the bustle of this busy, little town, there are walkways along the river that provide a beautiful view with nice scenery and different activities along the way, called the Riverwalk. It stretches along the river and there are many different sections where you could get on and off the paved trails.
